How much does interior design cost?
Mention interior design and there’s a good chance that the reaction will be that it’s a luxury that only the wealthy can afford. While that might be the case with some pretentious, high-end designers, here at Strive for Design we’re working hard to dispel that myth. In fact, we believe we’re offering a unique service that’s unlike any other interior design studio.
As Strive for Design owner Leigh Hall explains, her whole team passionately believes that interior design doesn’t have to cost a small fortune. ‘With most interior stylists asking thousands of pounds to space plan and provide ideas around furniture and stockists, we felt there was room to do something a little bit different, and it’s proving really popular with clients,’ comments Leigh. ‘Working with us, clients have the opportunity not only to tap into our design expertise, but also to access our wide range of suppliers and brands, with whom we have accounts. This enables us to pass on reductions to the client and also to co-ordinate deliveries and project manage any installation and renovation work which is carried out by our team of trusted tradespeople.
‘Most clients accept that they need to allocate budget towards renovation and installation, as well as furniture and accessories, but sometimes there’s resistance towards paying for design. But when we explain that our consultation fees start from as little as £99 they quickly realise the value of commissioning an expert. In reality, we also find that our ability to source products enables us to more than cover our fees in savings on the ticket price of the various items we need to order to complete the look. Ultimately, we know that by helping with the design, guiding clients through product selection and then overseeing the delivery and installation, we will ensure that their dream interior becomes a reality, and with a minimum of stress. When you weigh everything up, I genuinely believe that using an interior design service such as ours will save you money overall, and it will definitely reduce your stress levels and remove the risk of the project over-running.
‘Answering the question as to how much interior design costs is actually impossible because it’s not a one-size-fits-all process, and anyone who can quote you a fixed fee without taking a brief and doing some research is not likely to give you a bespoke service. Most of our clients use us for the whole project because they can see the value in our sourcing and project management skills, but it is of course possible to commission us on a design-only basis, and we are more than happy to quote for that too.’
The Strive for Design interior design process begins with a consultation during which Leigh will discuss your aspirations for your space and how you intend to use it, the style you wish to achieve, your colour preferences, and your taste in furniture and fabrics. She’ll also discuss the level of budget that’s available. From there we proceed to 2D space planning drawings, which include images of the furniture we think would work and then we can produce a 3D visual with final furniture selections if required. This is accompanied by samples of all finishes for flooring, windows, wallpapers, wall colours, lighting and accessories, and at that point we’re able to draw up a detailed final budget and schedule for the project.
