How to use Houzz and Pinterest for your Interior Design project
So you’ve decided that you want a new interior – a new lounge make over, or a kitchen or bathroom renovation, for example. But with so much choice and so many trades to choose from, where do you start?
We believe that this is where Houzz can come into its own. It is the place to browse and find the best design and construction professionals. You can source the right professional in your own area and contact them directly through the Houzz website. You can also see photographs of their previous work to give you an idea of their skills and project portfolio.
Leigh Hall, owner of Strive for Design, explains how Houzz benefits both client and supplier. ‘At Strive for Design we use Houzz and we advertise in Newmarket, Cambridge and Hertfordshire,’ comments Leigh. ‘This broadens our customer base, and since we have been featured on the website we have taken on a lot of great new projects! From an initial telephone call to establish exactly what you are looking for or need help to source, we will then conduct a site visit to take measurements and discuss your product and colour requirements. From there we will design a presentation showcasing many products and detailed features that we have sourced to improve your design.’

When our team is designing a new interior for a client it is especially important to us that we know exactly what they like in terms of colour and style. We find that the best way of identifying this is to use another invaluable tool: Pinterest. Pinterest is a social media network that allows you to share images associated with projects, goods and services, and visually to discover new interests by browsing images that others have posted.

We start interior design projects by creating a Pinterest mood board where our client can search and add inspirational images to their board. A key benefit of Pinterest is that you can search hundreds of images to find the right inspiration you need and maybe discover some products and ideas that you hadn’t even thought of. When you click on a particular image, Pinterest then searches similar images for you to see. The possibilities are endless!
Leigh is a big fan. ‘Pinterest gives our customers ideas they might never have even considered before and enables them to decide which ones they would like to run with. From there we will then source the right products using the images they have selected. This approach saves valuable time for us and we also know that we are picking the correct product for our clients right from the outset. It also means that our clients are involved from the very beginning of the design process. In our experience, what you first think you want is not always what you end up with! And that is usually a good thing.’
